The first time I heard these three words, they gave me comfort. I found the word “cultivate” very empowering because it was about training in not expecting to have answers and to find comfort within that space.

Rest in the space of knowing that the next step will be revealed exactly at the moment you need it!

It’s so hard not knowing what’s coming up next! We want to plan our day and map out every detail, but we really don’t know what’s coming. We can plan, and work through our goals, as we should. However, we cannot be attached to them. Otherwise, when the events of the day and other’s agendas take over, we might resist and then feel a little dejected.Today, we can do things a little bit differently and “cultivate not knowing,” and rest in that space of allowing, not expecting. This can make us feel a little vulnerable and feeling as if we’re setting out on a river without an oar.Venturing into unknown waters from time to time to cultivate not knowing what will come next is a great exercise in patience. The more you’re able to practice this in your creative life, the more you’re able to realize that this can become your most important asset.

I like to leave you with one of my favorite poems, which reminds us to let go and remain unattached. These four lines essentially tell us to enjoy and experience what comes our way, and then release them happily.

He who binds himself to a joy

does the winged life destroy;

But he who kisses the joy as it flies

Lives in eternity’s sunrise.

-William Blake
